Transport for London have announced that bus routes 207 and express 607 will only run as far as Shepherd’s Bush from April 6th 2019. The section between Shepherd’s Bush and White City for Westfield will be cut.
The 207 has seen a new contract awarded to Abellio London with 28 double deckers including a mix of new hybrids and existing buses cascaded from route C2.
The 607 express bus contract has been retained by Metroline with 19 new hybrid double deckers.
Both buses run down the very busy Uxbridge Road corridor through Ealing borough.
Whilst not a huge change it is particularly inconvenient to disabled people and parents who shop at Westfield, and buses are already very busy at times upon departing the shopping centre.
These cuts come as TfL attempt to reduce bus frequencies London wide as well as cut back routes or even completely. TfL’s finances were badly hit when George Osborne cut £700 million a year in funding as one of his final acts as Chancellor in 2015. He now edits the Evening Standard newspaper which often criticises TfL and cuts…
London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s fare freeze has also been blamed for adding to problems, though the annual hit is estimated at £50 million – far below Osbornes cut, and some say a freeze was needed to prevent even more people abandoning buses.
