TfL have just announced that the opening of Crossrail has been delayed almost a year to Autumn 2019.
Whilst the Western section through Ealing borough was always due to open in 2019, delaying the Abbey Wood to Paddington section is sure to have severe effects.
For one, the Central line relief planned is now gone. Another summer of stifling heat is the result. Second, it could lead to the western section now opening in 2020 as effort focused on the eastern section.
And thirdly, TfL’s finances will be hit extremely hard and they are already broke after a £700 million cut from central Government. More bus cuts could be the result.
Upgrades to stations through Ealing borough are already way behind schedule.
