166 flat tower block plan approved for Esso petrol station site in Southall

Ealing council recently approved plans for 166 flats in blocks of flats totalling 16 and 19 storeys on Merrick Road in Southall at the site of an Esso petrol station.

Plans were first submitted in October 2017 so this is a very quick turnaround in gaining approval.

Redrow Homes are behind this plan. They’re one of the UK’s biggest housing developers.

The area in which the towers will be built was designated as an “Opportunity Area” in 2014. In total the area is planned to see “800 homes, 900 sqm retail/commercial/community space and 8,500 sqm B1
managed workspace”.

Many more homes are already approved including a 22-storey block to the north.

The advent of Crossrail services from Southall is cited as one reason for the large spike in applications. Great Western Trains to central London have also been recently converted to electrified rolling stock with trains lengthened from 3-6 carriages to 8.

The planning application is 177742FUL
